Brussels – At the recent EU Agriculture Ministers’ meeting in Brussels, Slovenian State Secretary for Agriculture Eva Knez expressed her support for the European Commission’s newly presented vision for agriculture and food. The professional sector is currently reviewing the details of the proposal.
The European Commission outlined key components of its vision, which aims to enhance the competitiveness of the EU agricultural sector while making it more appealing to younger generations. Announcements made in Brussels included plans to simplify existing EU regulations and streamline agricultural policy in the forthcoming multiannual budget.
In her initial remarks, State Secretary Knez acknowledged Slovenia’s approval of the vision, which positions agriculture and the food sector as essential pillars of the EU, emphasizing the vital role farmers play in society.
Knez noted, “A stable and predictable framework is essential for fostering holistic and sustainable development, while also allowing for flexibility to cater to national specifics. Solutions must effectively tackle economic, environmental, and social challenges alike.”
She stressed the importance of ensuring fair compensation for farmers, maintaining sufficient funding, and providing clarity on how changes will affect the common agricultural policy. Additionally, she highlighted the need for adequate budgetary provisions for this policy, which is currently under discussion for the upcoming multiannual financial framework. (February 25)
