Elon Musk congratulated Alice Weidel on her success, reposting a tweet and commenting, “At this rate of growth, AfD will be the majority party by the next election.”
Musk had actively supported Weidel’s campaign, hosting a live discussion with her on his social media platform, X. He also frequently endorsed the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and even spoke at one of their rallies.
Before the election, Friedrich Merz, the politician expected to become Germany’s next chancellor, warned that Musk should face consequences for interfering in the country’s electoral process.
“What happened in this election campaign cannot go unchallenged,” Merz stated. “It can be a political response. It can be a legal response. I want to analyze this calmly after this election campaign.”
