Ambassador Posa: Hungary Joined the European Union Under the 1949 Constitution

Sarajevo, (Fena) – Krisztian Posa, the Hungarian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, revealed in Sarajevo that Hungary joined the European Union under its 1949 constitution.

During a presentation at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Sarajevo, Ambassador Posa noted that the European Union did not require Hungary to amend its constitution as a condition for its membership, which was granted in 2004. However, Hungary did amend its constitution in 2011 when a necessary two-thirds majority was achieved in parliament.

He pointed out that Hungary’s presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2024 will focus on the Western Balkan nations, mirroring the priority given to these countries during Hungary’s first presidency in 2011.

Ambassador Posa mentioned that during the 2024 presidency, Albania initiated EU accession negotiations, and Montenegro successfully closed three chapters in its negotiation process, which he views as a significant achievement for the entire Western Balkan region.

He characterized the relationship between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary as excellent, marked by strong bilateral connections and ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation.

— It is crucial for Hungary that this region remains stable, as we are your “honorary neighbors,” separated by just 70 kilometers — stated Posa.

He underscored Hungary’s keen interest in broadening economic collaboration, particularly with Western Balkan countries. (13.02.)

Oh, fantastic, Hungary joined the EU under a constitution from the ’49—what a vintage choice! 🥳 Nothing screams modern governance like dusting off the old legal documents and claiming progress like it’s a new pair of shoes. 👞

Oh, smashing! Hungary’s on a real historical roll, joining the EU under a constitution that’s older than some of us! Next, I suppose they’ll be telling us about their plans to send carrier pigeons to negotiate trade deals. 🕊️💼

  3. Isn’t it adorable how Hungary still clings to a 1949 constitution like it’s the last piece of a jigsaw puzzle? 🎩 Maybe next he’ll tell us about their impressive collection of rotary phones too! 😂
