Eendracht Aalst Declared Bankrupt Due to Financial Troubles

Aalst (Eurotoday) – Eendracht Aalst, a Belgian football club, has gone bankrupt and been expelled from the leagues due to financial problems. Turkish owners left amid controversy.

Eendracht Aalst is a football club in Belgium. The club’s financial troubles led to bankruptcy and expulsion from the leagues. According to officials, Eendracht Aalst’s downfall saddened many fans as they witnessed the collapse of one of Belgium’s historic football teams. The first team was disbanded, throwing the club into turmoil. Fans and young players lost their sporting home. 

Many of them moved to KVC Jong Lede, a nearby club. To honor Eendracht Aalst, KVC Jong Lede rebranded itself as Eendracht Aalst Lede. Officials stated that this decision helped preserve the club’s legacy. However, concerns remain about its future, as it is uncertain whether the new club can continue using that name next season.

Will Eendracht Aalst ever recover from bankruptcy?

Aalst City Council now owns the name Eendracht Aalst and will decide who can use it moving forward. Officials noted that this could create difficulties for Eendracht Aalst Lede in maintaining its new identity. The club’s original registration number, 90, carries financial burdens due to outstanding debts expected to last a decade. It remains uncertain whether this number can be reinstated.

Officials also indicated that the city council is among the creditors, as Eendracht Aalst failed to pay rent. However, they have not actively pursued repayment, aiming to avoid further complications regarding the club’s past and future. 

In March 2023, the club was on the brink of bankruptcy. Two administrators intervened to address financial difficulties. Officials stated that without their help, the club would likely have shut down. These administrators managed to stabilize operations temporarily, allowing Eendracht Aalst to continue. However, the club failed to meet the requirements to compete in the national leagues. A few months later, football authorities revoked its license, effectively barring it from competition. 

During the summer of 2023, the Turkish-led management of Eendracht Aalst blank”>resigned, unable to resolve the ongoing issues. Officials noted that without clear leadership, the club faced further decline and was demoted to the provincial leagues. 

The situation worsened when Voetbal Vlaanderen expelled the first team from official matches, citing the club’s lack of a proper playing field. This decision left Eendracht Aalst without a place in Belgian football.
