Hunted Boar Smashes Through Leefdaal Window: “Only 2 Meters Away!”

Leefdaal (Eurotoday) – A hunted wild boar from Leefdaal near Bertem collided with the sliding window frame of a house, causing it to shatter.

During an intense hunting pursuit in Leefdaal, Belgium, one wild boar escaped and crashed into a nearby residence, leaving significant property damage and shocking the residents. Wout experienced a frightening ordeal when the wild boar struck his sliding window, shattering the glass.

It was a wild boar that had gotten away, chased by the hunt,”

said Wout.

“A wild boar like that easily weighs a few hundred kilos, so it can cause quite a bit of damage.”

The damage to the house was extensive, he noted.

“We were standing two meters from the window, but fortunately, we were not injured. It was very frightening, also for the dog. He doesn’t dare to go outside anymore.”

The wild boar immediately fled and collided with a car on the street, causing further damage.

A few hours later, they were able to shoot the animal,” Wout explained. “It was already injured when it ran into our window, and injured wild boars can apparently be dangerous.”

Leefdaal, known for its rural and green landscape, has a significant wild boar population, but for Wout, this was his first direct encounter with one.

“I had seen tracks before, but never a wild boar in person. It was quite a shock.”

Wout plans to cover the broken window with wooden panels and insulation material.

“I hope the insurance company processes this quickly, but I’m optimistic.”

When asked if he now feels safe in his home, he responded:

“Actually, my garden is well fenced, except for an opening to the neighbors. We’re going to install a gate now.”

Why are wild boar encounters increasing in Belgium?

The growing wild boar population and their expanding habitat have led to a rise in encounters across Belgium. After nearly 50 years of absence, wild boars reappeared in Flanders in 2006 and have since established themselves in various fragmented territories, increasing human-wildlife interactions. Farmers, particularly in Limburg, report significant crop damage due to wild boars, with 42% of fields affected.

Additionally, road accidents and the threat of disease transmission, such as African Swine Fever, pose further risks. Hunting programs struggle to control the wild boar population due to ecological and management challenges, making integrated management strategies necessary to balance environmental benefits and mitigate risks.

Can’t say I’ve ever seen a wild boar go for a home invasion; guess it’s just another day in Leefdaal—where the wildlife take their hunting skills to the next level! 🐗💥 Better watch out, the next thing you know, we’ll have boars applying for mortgage loans. 😅

Only in Belgium can a boar crash a window and still leave you wondering if your insurance covers ‘wildlife incidents’—I mean, who needs a security system when you’ve got a hunting party instead? 🤷‍♂️🥴

Of course, nothing says “home sweet home” quite like a wild boar auditioning for the role of a window-wrecker! 🐗💥 At least Wout can charge admission for the next wildlife show in his living room! 😂

Oh, just another day in Leefdaal, where wild boars take window shopping to a whole new level—who needs a shopping spree when you can have a boar crash party? 🐗💥 Maybe we should start charging admission for the next one!

You know it’s a good day in Leefdaal when your morning coffee comes with a side of wild boar window smash! 🐗💥 Next time, Wout might want to consider a stronger glass or perhaps a “boar-proof” upgrade to his home. 😂

Oh, brilliant, just what we needed—wild boars taking window smashing to a whole new level! Maybe next time they can bring their own tools and save us the insurance hassle? 🐗💥

Nothing like a wild boar crashing through your window to spice up the day in Leefdaal! Who needs a home security system when you have a two-meter-tall beast playing tag with your glass? 🐗💥
