Skopje – Euro ambassador Michalis Rokas emphasized the EU Delegation’s commitment to assisting North Macedonia in implementing reforms, highlighting the significant momentum in the enlargement process that the country should capitalize on, following his recent visit to Kumanovo.
In response to a journalist’s inquiry about the potential for North Macedonia and Bulgaria to engage in discussions given the formation of a new government in Sofia, Rokas noted, “Bulgaria has a new government, and we have observed the positive exchanges of congratulations; we welcome this development.”
Rokas highlighted the ongoing diplomatic efforts for the country’s Eurointegration, mentioning that the Prime Minister has made two visits to Brussels in December alone. He stated, “There is significant diplomatic activity currently taking place; however, alongside these efforts to resolve the issues with Bulgaria, our primary focus remains on implementing and achieving the reforms outlined in the recently adopted Reform Agenda by your Government.”
Addressing expectations for the Western Balkans with the new American administration, Rokas welcomed any initiatives that support the EU accession process. “While I cannot comment on the Prime Minister’s visit to the USA, it’s important to recognize that the USA is a crucial partner and contributor for the country. Any initiative from across the Atlantic aimed at advancing the eurointegration process is greatly appreciated,” he concluded. (January 23)
