Lokeren Celebrates Miet Smet with 600 Guests and Live Stream

Lokeren (Eurotoday): Miet Smet’s service in Lokeren will host 600 guests and include a live stream for the community. Key figures include Bishop Van Loo and Yves Leterme.

For the upcoming ceremony in Lokeren, the church has reserved 600 seats for guests invited by the family. There will be no standing room inside, so to include everyone, a large screen will be set up outside to show the service live. This allows residents of Lokeren and nearby areas to join in the event, even if they can’t be inside the church. The arrangements aim to make sure that everyone can respectfully participate in this important occasion.

How is Lokeren honoring Miet Smet’s legacy?

Miet Smet’s church service will start with a military tribute featuring around a hundred soldiers and a band. Bishop Luc Van Looy and Dean Geert Catrysse will lead the service, with speeches from figures like former Prime Minister Yves Leterme, honoring Miet Smet’s work for women’s rights. After the service, which will last about an hour and a half, she will be buried next to her husband at Campo Santo cemetery in Sint-Amandsberg.

For those who can’t find a seat in the church, the city has set up a covered area in the market square. Mayor Filip Anthuenis said it’s important to let the local community participate in the event, as the family wishes. This setup allows people to gather comfortably while still respecting the occasion.

Looks like Lokeren’s really rolling out the red carpet for Miet Smet – 600 guests and a live stream? Talk about a gathering for the ages! 🤔 Just hoping the soldiers don’t steal the show with their marching band – wouldn’t want them upstaging the actual star! 🎺💼

Oh, splendid! Nothing says “community spirit” quite like a military tribute and a live stream for the locals who couldn’t squeeze into the church. 😏 600 guests and a big screen? I suppose it’s just like watching the footie match, but with a bit more solemnity and a lot less drama! 🍻

Oh, fantastic! Nothing says “celebration of a life well-lived” quite like 600 people crammed into a church while the rest huddle outside, squinting at a big screen—classic European efficiency, innit? 😂 But hey, at least the soldiers and the former PM will keep things lively; who needs a cozy seat when you’ve got a military band, right?

Oh, splendid! Nothing says “we cherish your legacy” quite like packing 600 folks into a church and throwing up a screen outside—because who doesn’t love a good live stream of a funeral, right? 🎥😏
