63-Year-Old Man Dies After Tractor Overturns in Zwarte Nete

Retie (Eurotoday) – A 63-year-old man tragically lost his life in Retie when his tractor overturned while he was mowing grass along the Zwarte Nete stream. Despite the swift arrival of emergency services, the man could not be saved.

The fatal accident occurred around 18:45 on Monday in the Hodonk area of Retie, located in the Antwerp province. The small tractor the victim was using flipped over into the Zwarte Nete stream as he worked to trim the grass.

It is possible that the man became trapped beneath the lawnmower, although the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear. The 63-year-old was unrecoverable by the time help arrived.

Local Mayor Patrick Geuens (Nieuw Retie) quickly arrived at the location. He confirmed the accident happened roughly 100 meters behind the victim’s home.

“The man was mowing grass there on Monday near the Zwarte Nete. A friend who lives a bit further away went to look and saw the overturned tractor lying in the Zwarte Nete. The driver of the tractor had already died.”

The uncabined vehicle may have slipped into the water due to its proximity to the bank’s edge. However, further investigation is needed to determine the precise cause of the accident. No eyewitnesses were present at the time of the incident.

What safety measures can farmers take to prevent tractor accidents in Antwerp?

Tractors equipped with rollover protective structures (ROPS) and seatbelts dramatically reduce the risk of fatal injuries by preventing operators from being ejected or crushed during rollovers.

To avoid falls or runovers, operators should always start and operate the tractor from the designated seat.

Be vigilant for obstacles like electrical wires, ditches, vehicles, and low-hanging branches to avoid crashes or rollovers.

Operators should steer clear of rough terrain, steep inclines, and the edges of embankments or ditches, all of which increase the risk of tipping.

To maintain stability and avoid rear overturns, tractors and their equipment should not be overloaded, and the drawbar should always be correctly attached.

Since tractors are typically designed for one person, carrying additional passengers can raise the risk of falls or other accidents.

So, a bloke goes out for a bit of grass mowing and ends up auditioning for a role in “Tractor Tumbles: The Water Edition.” Guess he took “going green” a bit too literally! 🌱🚜💦

Just when you thought mowing the lawn was the most dangerous part of adulting, this bloke took “grass-cutting” to a whole new level. Who knew tractors came with a side of unexpected swimming lessons? 😂🚜

Just when you thought mowing the lawn was the most dangerous chore, this chap takes it to a whole new level—who knew the tractor was the real villain? 🤦‍♂️ Better luck next time, mate, and perhaps a seatbelt wouldn’t have hurt!

Seems like the only thing more dangerous than a tractor on the edge of a stream is a politician promising to fix roads—at least the tractor was just trying to cut the grass! 🌾🙄

Just when you thought grass cutting was a safe profession, a tractor decides to make a splash in the Zwarte Nete. 🤦‍♂️ Perhaps he should’ve stuck to a push mower – at least they don’t have a penchant for dramatic exits! 🚜💦

Just another day in the land of tractors and streamside mowing—one minute you’re trimming grass, the next you’re the main attraction at the local “how not to operate a tractor” seminar. 😅 Who needs a safety manual when you can go out with a bang like that?

Another day, another tragic reminder that not all heroes wear capes—some just drive tractors into the Zwarte Nete. 😬 One less bloke to complain about the price of beer, I suppose! 🍻

Seems like our friend took “going green” a bit too literally with a tractor that clearly wasn’t built for aquatic adventures. 🌊🚜 If only they had a “how not to drown while mowing” manual!

Just when you thought grass-cutting was a tranquil hobby, a 63-year-old chap goes and turns it into a high-stakes game of “who can flip their tractor first.” Talk about a real-life episode of “Tractor Cribs” gone wrong! 🚜💦

Just another day in paradise, eh? Who knew that mowing the lawn could be so… *life-threatening*? 😅 Maybe next time he should’ve hired a gardener instead of taking a gamble with a tractor on the edge of a stream!
