113-Year-Old Church Relocated in Sweden

Engineers relocate historic building in two days

In Kiruna, Sweden, engineers successfully moved one of the largest wooden structures in the country — the 113-year-old city church — over a distance of five kilometers. The operation, completed in two days, was executed with great precision to maintain the building’s unique architecture.

The church, acclaimed as Sweden’s most beautiful wooden structure, now resides in the new city center. The relocation was necessary due to the expansion of the world’s largest underground iron ore mine, which posed a threat to the mosque’s original site.

Experts state that while the building is now in its new location, the work is ongoing. The bell tower, a separate structure, will be relocated on August 26.

The church will be fully reinforced and adjusted to its new surroundings, according to Reuters.

Moving a 113-year-old church in just two days? Must be nice to have engineers who can do in 48 hours what it takes the rest of us a lifetime to get done—probably the only time you’ll hear someone say, “Holy relocation!” 🤷‍♂️

  6. Oh, moving a 113-year-old church in two days? Just another Tuesday for Swedish engineers, right? 😂 Let’s hope the bell tower doesn’t play hide and seek next!

Oh, just what we needed, a game of “musical chairs” with a church! Only in Sweden do you move a 113-year-old building like it’s an IKEA shelf, and everyone claps. 😂🏗️
