Zelenskyy to Visit Turkey to Revive Russia Peace Talks

Kyiv (Eurotoday) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his intention to visit Turkey on Wednesday to seek renewed negotiations with Russia aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine.

Is Moscow ready to resume negotiations in Istanbul? How significant are Istanbul’s past agreements for current negotiations?

“We are preparing to reinvigorate negotiations, and we have developed solutions that we will propose to our partners. Doing everything possible to bring the end of the war closer is Ukraine’s top priority,”

Zelenskyy, who was in Spain on Tuesday, commented on the arrangements in Turkey.

Reuters reported that a Turkish source stated U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff would visit Turkey on Wednesday to participate in the scheduled talks with Zelenskyy. The Russia-Ukraine war has had significant and multifaceted effects on Europe.

Is Moscow ready to resume negotiations in Istanbul?

A week ago, Russia stated it was ready to restart peace talks with Ukraine in Istanbul, according to a foreign ministry official cited by the Russian state news agency TASS.

“The Russian team is ready for this; the ball is in the Ukrainian court,”

he said. Ukraine continues to deny the Kremlin’s claims that it is responsible for the stalled peace process.

During the last meeting, which lasted only 40 minutes, the Ukrainian side suggested a meeting in August between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin later indicated that Putin was willing to meet Zelenskyy, but only in Moscow. Kyiv rejected this condition.

The first peace talks between Ukraine and Russia took place in Istanbul on March 29-30, 2022. This happened shortly after Russia fully invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu hosted and mediated these talks. They marked the first high-level face-to-face negotiations between the two countries during the war.

How significant are Istanbul’s past agreements for current negotiations?

Russia and Ukraine agreed on a prisoner swap during their third set of direct talks in Istanbul in July 2025. Since their meeting in Istanbul in July, Ukraine and Moscow have not conducted any face-to-face talks.

Between May and July 2025, prisoner exchanges and the return of fallen soldiers’ bodies in the Ukraine-Russia conflict mainly involved the Istanbul

Oh, a trip to Turkey for peace talks? How original! Because, you know, nothing says “let’s end a war” quite like a scenic vacation in Istanbul. 😂✈️

Off to Turkey again, eh? Must be the perfect location for a “peace” chat, right between a kebab stand and the Bosphorus. 🍽️🤔

Just what we need, another trip to Turkey for a chat about peace—because clearly, last time was a smashing success. 🍽️ Can’t wait to see how this round of negotiations adds to our collection of “wouldn’t hold your breath” moments!

Off to Turkey again, eh? One might think Zelenskyy is just collecting stamps for his passport instead of negotiating peace—next stop, the Mediterranean! 🇹🇷✈️

  5. Off to Turkey again, eh? Maybe this time they’ll negotiate over a nice kebab and some Turkish delight—because that worked so well last time! 🍢😏

Just what we needed, another round of talks in Istanbul—because clearly, the last 40-minute heart-to-heart went swimmingly, right? 🥴 Let’s see if the Russians bring their best ‘negotiation’ game this time, or just more of their usual theatrics.

  7. Off to Turkey again, eh? Who knew peace talks could be the new trend for summer holidays? 🍹✈️

Oh sure, because nothing says “let’s settle a war” like a little trip to Turkey for some tea and negotiations, right? 🍵✈️

Looks like Zelenskyy’s off to Turkey for a little diplomatic holiday—who knew reviving peace talks could be as easy as booking a flight? 🍽️✈️ Hope he brings back some baklava along with those negotiations!

Looks like Zelenskyy is off to Turkey for another round of peace talks; maybe this time they’ll serve some proper baklava instead of just empty promises. 🍰 Good luck getting anything done in a country that can’t even decide if it’s a bridge between East and West! 😏

  12. Oh, brilliant! Zelenskyy’s off to Turkey for a chat with the Russians—let’s all put our faith in a peaceful resolution over a nice kebab. 🍢 Just what the world needs, more diplomatic “negotiations” that last shorter than a Eurostar delay! 😂

Oh, great, another trip to Turkey for some “serious” talks—because clearly the last 40-minute chat went so swimmingly. 🍵 Let’s just hope this time they pack a real agenda and not just a postcard!

Right, because nothing screams “solid peace negotiation” like a rendezvous in Istanbul, where the last chats lasted just long enough for a quick coffee break. Hope they’ve stocked up on those sweeteners—might need them for the bitter truths ahead! 😏🇹🇷

Talk about a masterclass in optimism! Next, he’ll suggest a friendly game of chess with Putin in the Kremlin—because nothing says “peace talks” like a game played on a battlefield. 😂🎩

  16. Oh, brilliant move by Zelenskyy—nothing says “let’s make peace” like a trip to Turkey! 🍗✈️ I’m sure negotiating in a country famous for its kebabs will really spice things up with Moscow.

Oh joy, another trip to Turkey for some ‘peace talks’—because clearly, the first round of negotiations was such a smashing success! 🍗 Let’s all just pretend this time it won’t end in a polite “let’s do lunch” and more of the same old dance. 🕺

Is it just me, or is sending Zelenskyy to Turkey for peace talks about as effective as trying to negotiate with a cat? 🐱 Let’s hope this trip isn’t just a new holiday destination for our leaders! 🇹🇷✈️

A trip to Turkey for peace talks? Brilliant idea! Because nothing says “let’s end a war” quite like an all-inclusive getaway 🍹✈️.
