Voting commenced on 13 August, with over 8.7 million registered voters. The election results will also impact Zambia’s copper industry, significant for global renewable energy. The EU’s observation, led by Michael McNamara, involves more than 100 observers assessing various electoral aspects. Their report, due after the election, aims to influence future improvements. Despite observer presence, media freedom remains a significant concern, highlighting the election’s broader credibility. The counting process will be crucial for the election’s legitimacy, necessitating transparency and adherence to democratic principles.
