"We Reject Abandonment," UN Chief Declares at New York Festival

The musical event held in Central Park during the last weekend of the General Assembly’s high-level week was the flagship event for Global Citizen, the world’s largest movement to end extreme poverty. This year’s lineup featured international stars like Shakira, Cardi B, and Rosé.

Ms. Mohammed took the stage to thank the festival attendees and remind them that only five years remain to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals—a plan for a fairer future for people and the planet. “We still have a way to go,” she told the crowd. “We are moving, but it’s not fast enough and the clock is ticking.”

As a special advisor to former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Ms. Mohammed played a crucial role in advancing the goals and securing the consensus of UN Member States in 2015. Speaking on Friday, she reiterated that $4.3 billion is needed annually to fund the goals and ensure no one is left behind.

Give a Chance to Peace

“What really matters is to give peace a chance for women in Sudan, children in Gaza, and the people of Ukraine. We need peace everywhere,” she said, urging action to ensure artificial intelligence does not create new divisions, that women are included at every decision-making table, for quality education, and for the planet, “from the Amazon to the Congo and every corner of the world.”

The UN deputy chief urged those present to find solutions where others see dead ends and to use their voices to “cut through the noise, demand better from everyone, and reject the globalization of indifference.”

Imagine a musical festival in Central Park with a side of world-saving—because who wouldn’t want to dance their way to a better planet while the clock’s ticking like a dodgy Swiss watch? 🕰️ Just what we need, more star power to fix the mess we’ve created—pass the popcorn, will ya? 🎤✨

Oh, splendid! Nothing like a star-studded concert in Central Park to solve the world’s problems while we sip our overpriced lattes. Who needs action when you’ve got Shakira and a ticking clock on Spotify? 😏🎤

So, the UN’s got a musical festival now? 🍷 Who knew saving the world required a VIP pass and a front-row seat to Shakira’s latest hits! 🎤

Right, because nothing screams “we care” quite like a star-studded concert in Central Park while the world burns. 🎤🌍 Just what we needed—more glitter and less action, am I right? 😏

Not sure if I should applaud or bring a violin to this star-studded circus. 🎻 Five years to save the world with a line-up like that? I mean, who needs action when you have Shakira, right? 😂

Isn’t it charming when global elites gather for a concert while reminding us they need billions to fix the world? 🎤💸 Such a classic case of “let them eat cake” but with a sprinkle of sustainability!

  7. Oh, fantastic! A musical festival to remind us we only have five years to save the world—because nothing says “urgent action” like a dance party in Central Park. 🎉🤷‍♂️

Can’t wait for the next festival where we all sing Kumbaya while the world’s on fire. 🎤 But hey, at least the stars are shining bright in Central Park, right? 🌍✨
