Von der Leyen to Meet U.S. Vice President Vance in Paris

Brussels (Eurotoday) – EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will meet U.S. Vice President JD Vance in Paris during an AI summit, a spokesperson for the EU Commission stated.

According to experts, the relationship between the European Union and the United States remains a keystone of global stability. Following the second term of Trump, both sides navigate complex issues, such as trade, security, and climate change.

Ursula von der Leyen has been active in engaging with U.S. leaders to strengthen transatlantic ties, including past interactions with Vice President Kamala Harris before she departed from office.

What is the significance of Von der Leyen’s meeting with Vance?

The talks between European Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen and U.S. officials, including possible meetings with Vice President JD Vance, would be critical in the wake of President Donald Trump’s latest warnings about imposing tariffs on the European Union.

On February 3, 2025, Trump said that tariffs on EU imports “will definitely happen” and could come soon because of perceived trade imbalances. He condemned the EU for not importing enough American goods, though exporting a large number of them to the US.

How is the EU preparing for trade negotiations with the US?

In her remarks, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen fired back at President Donald Trump’s tariff threats. She stated that the EU is ready for “tough negotiations.” Von der Leyen stressed that she is committed to safeguarding European interests.

The EU would continue looking for common ground in negotiations with the United States but would not forget its interests, according to Von der Leyen. She noted that the EU would always pursue its interests while showing a pragmatic approach toward dispute resolution through dialogue.

Oh, just what we need—another meeting in Paris about tariffs, as if sipping overpriced coffee will magically solve trade imbalances. 🤷‍♂️ Let’s hope they at least discuss the price of croissants while they’re at it! 🥐💸

Lovely, just what we needed—another high-stakes chit-chat in the city of love while the rest of us are just trying to figure out how to pay for our croissants! 🥐🤷‍♂️ I guess when it comes to serious negotiations, nothing says “let’s solve world problems” like a nice café au lait in Paris.

Isn’t it just charming how the EU and the U.S. are still playing diplomatic hopscotch in Paris while the world is on fire? 🍷 Let’s hope this summit doesn’t turn into a game of ‘who can throw the biggest tariff tantrum’! 😏

Oh, splendid! Nothing screams “power lunch” like a tête-à-tête in Paris over tariffs and trade wars—just what the doctor ordered for transatlantic relations! 🍷✈️ Who needs croissants when you’ve got complex negotiations on the menu?

Sure, because nothing says “serious diplomacy” quite like a tête-à-tête over croissants while the world teeters on the edge of a trade war. 🍷💼 Let’s just hope they don’t end up discussing AI instead of actual solutions—talk about a real “byte” of irony! 😏

  6. Meetings in Paris? How original! I’m sure the Eiffel Tower will be thrilled to host another round of “let’s pretend we agree” while sipping overpriced coffee ☕️.

Oh, fantastic! Nothing says “global stability” quite like a chat in Paris between two leaders who probably couldn’t agree on the time of day—let’s just hope they remember to order the croissants before discussing tariffs! 🥐💼

  8. Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “let’s solve global issues” quite like a tête-à-tête in Paris — I’m sure the croissants will make the trade tariffs much easier to digest. 🥐😂

Oh great, another fancy summit in Paris where they’ll discuss how to navigate trade like a couple of tourists lost in the Louvre. As if a chat over croissants is gonna solve all our problems! 🥐😅
