
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, along with the head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, urged for restraint and a cessation of escalation in the Middle East on Friday. They expressed their willingness to support “any diplomatic efforts.”
Von der Leyen noted that the situation in the Middle East is extremely troubling.
In a social media statement, she stressed, “Europe calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, to immediately cease escalation, and to refrain from retaliatory actions.”
She highlighted that “a diplomatic solution is now more urgent than ever, for the sake of regional stability and global security.”
“Diplomacy remains the best way forward, and I am prepared to support any diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation,” Kallas reiterated.
On Friday morning, Israel conducted strikes against Iran, targeting nuclear and military facilities. This operation is reported to have resulted in the deaths of high-ranking Iranian commanders and at least six nuclear energy scientists. (06.13.2025)
