Bratislava – The Ministry of Agriculture of the Slovak Republic is required to secure 440 million euros from EU funds through the rural development program by the end of the year. With only three months remaining, there is a concern that a significant portion of these funds may be lost permanently. Opposition MP Veronika Remišová (Hnutie Slovensko, Za ľudí, KÚ) highlighted this issue during a press conference, as reported by TASR.
“I previously warned that the Minister of Agriculture lost 216 million euros intended for farmers. By the year’s end, we could see further losses,” stated Veronika Remišová. She remarked that it is unrealistic for projects to be finalized and funds to be allocated by the end of December. Remišová is calling for Minister of Agriculture Richard Takáč (Smer-SD) to appear in parliament to clarify the management of EU funds.
Additionally, Remišová expressed her discontent regarding recent contracts signed by the Ministry of Agriculture with legal and consulting firms.
“In recent months, Minister Takáč has entered into contracts with law firms totaling over half a million euros, despite having a fully staffed legal department within the ministry,” remarked the former Minister of Investments, Regional Development, and Informatization of the Slovak Republic. She indicated her intention to approach the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic to assess the efficacy of these contracts. (September 30)
