Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to personally attend an upcoming conference and announced Monday that he plans to meet with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance on the event’s sidelines.
He also revealed that Kyiv is working on arranging a meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump. Last week, Trump stated that he would “probably” meet with Zelenskyy in the coming days.
Kyiv is aiming to strengthen ties with Washington as it prepares for potential negotiations with Russia to end the nearly three-year-long war.
Trump has frequently voiced skepticism about continuing U.S. military aid to Ukraine and has pushed for peace talks. However, Kyiv has firmly rejected any settlement that involves ceding territory to Moscow.
In an effort to maintain U.S. support, Zelenskyy has recently suggested allowing American companies to develop Ukraine’s natural resources, including rare earth minerals.
“The Americans have provided the most help, so they should also benefit the most,” Zelenskyy said Friday in an interview with Reuters. “I would like to discuss this with President Trump as well.”
