In a recent address, former U.S. President Donald Trump declared that the country was in “great shape,” highlighting the achievements of his trade policies. He noted that he had reduced tariffs to 10 percent, saying his intention was “to be fair to other people, other countries.”
When questioned about the ongoing trade tensions with China, Trump described Chinese President Xi Jinping as “a very good leader, a very smart leader,” and suggested that “something positive is going to come” from the situation.
The comments came on the same day Beijing announced it was increasing tariffs on all U.S. goods to 125 percent. The move mirrored recent White House actions, which imposed equivalent tariffs on Chinese imports, in addition to an existing 20 percent duty.
