BRUSSELS – An agreement has been reached on a mutual import tariff set at 15 percent, although several aspects of the arrangement remain to be finalized.
Proponents of the agreement will claim that significant challenges have been avoided, that this pact fosters stability in the world’s largest trading relationship, and that it enhances the EU’s competitiveness, while also promoting cooperation between the EU and the US beyond mere trade. “I want to make certain that our regulatory authority, covering areas from digital services to CO2 pricing, is not compromised in return for this agreement,” stated Lange, who has made multiple trips to Washington to engage in negotiations.
