The European Commission Faces Pressure and Dissatisfaction Regarding Agri-Policy Creation and Financing

Brussels – The European Commission (EC) faces significant pressure from EU member states, farmers, and their trade unions regarding the financing of the Common Agricultural Policy. This was stated by Agriculture Minister Richard Takáč (Smer-SD) on Thursday in Brussels, following the first day of discussions at the EU Council for Agriculture and Fisheries, as reported by TASR.

Richard Takáč highlighted that the primary focus of the agenda was the Common Agricultural Policy and its future post-2027.

“I can affirm that there remains pressure from various nations for modifications,” he noted, addressing the original EC proposals concerning the structure and funding of the Common Agricultural Policy. “Ministers disagree, for instance, on merging all funds into a single super-fund. They desire the Common Agricultural Policy to stay distinct and unified. The agricultural foundations of the EU were established on this principle,” he elaborated.

Without funding for the agricultural sector, we cannot achieve food self-sufficiency and security

Takáč stressed that maintaining the two-pillar structure of agricultural policy is crucial for the EU’s food self-sufficiency and security, which is dependent on adequate financial resources. “If we fail to allocate funds for the agricultural sector, we will not ensure self-sufficiency and food security,” he emphasized.

The minister recalled the recent visit of European Commissioner for Agriculture Christophe Hansen to Slovakia, where he confirmed that “the reallocation of that 10% from the long-term budget for rural areas has been approved.” However, he mentioned that many uncertainties remain regarding how much of this will actually benefit the agricultural sector.

“Funding in rural areas can be directed towards various projects via local governments that may not relate to agriculture. All member states are advocating for adequate funding for the agricultural sector. With the EU’s budget nearly doubling, it cannot justify providing less funding for agriculture,” he cautioned.

Takáč believes the EC is beginning to recognize this pressure and asserts that all efforts in this direction are important. He advocates for effective communication and illustrative examples from various countries to explain why the proposal submitted by the EC this summer is inadequate.

Also present at the Council of Ministers was the chairman of the European farmers’ confederation COPA – COGECA, who announced plans for a large demonstration in Brussels next week against the EC’s proposed agricultural policy. “I fully support the protests scheduled for next week,” Takáč stated after a bilateral meeting with representatives of COPA – COGECA. Seems like the EC’s idea of funding agriculture is about as clear as mud, eh? 🤔 Nothing like a good old super-fund debate to spice up the Brussels agenda! 💸🍅

The EC’s agricultural policy discussions are a real agricultural thriller, aren’t they? Just when you thought merging funds was the craziest idea since sliced bread, they remind us that confusion is the only constant in Brussels. 🍞😏

  3. Seems like the EC is trying to juggle farm funding while farmers are just left picking up the hay—good luck merging that into a super-fund, mate! 😂 They might as well call it the Common Agricultural Comedy Policy at this rate!

Oh, the EC and their agricultural policies—it’s like watching a bunch of chefs argue over the last slice of bread while the whole bakery is on fire. 🍞🔥 Good luck with that super-fund, lads; I hear merging everything into one big pot is all the rage these days! 😏

  5. Looks like the EC is really hitting the field running, eh? Nothing says “let’s secure our food future” quite like a good ol’ budget debate while the farmers are ready to storm Brussels with pitchforks. 🍋

Seems like the EC needs a crash course in farming 101—who knew keeping food on our plates could be so complicated? 🍽️🙄 Good luck merging those funds without unleashing a field of chaos!

Looks like the EU’s agri-policy is as clear as mud! 🤨 I mean, who needs food security when we can just have endless meetings and debates, right? 🍽️💼

Oh, fantastic! Nothing like a good old EU meeting to remind us that farmers and bureaucrats speak different languages—one’s about ploughs, the other about paper. 🍷 #AgriDrama

Just what we need, more discussions in Brussels about a super-fund for farmers—because clearly, nothing says “food security” like a bureaucratic juggling act. 🍅💰 If only there were a fund for common sense!

  10. Isn’t it delightful how the EU can’t seem to agree on anything except for how to complicate farming? Maybe they should just hire a committee to form a committee to discuss the committees! 😏🌾

  11. Looks like the EU’s got a real knack for turning a simple farm budget into a game of political chess 🎭. Who knew that keeping our food on the table could be this complicated? 🤷‍♂️

  12. Looks like the EC is busy juggling funds while farmers are left to play the waiting game—brilliant strategy for food security, eh? 🍅💸 Who needs self-sufficiency when you’ve got a super-fund to keep things interesting!

  13. Looks like the Commission is really nailing it again—nothing screams “future of farming” like a good old-fashioned squabble over cash. Cheers to keeping our agricultural policy as tangled as a plate of spaghetti! 🍝💸

Seems like the European Commission is trying to juggle agriculture funding like a clown at a circus, but all they’re getting is a few rotten tomatoes thrown their way. 🍅 Good luck making that super-fund look anything but super messy!

Seems like the EC is trying to juggle flaming torches while riding a unicycle – good luck with that! 🌍💸 If they think merging funds into a “super-fund” is the answer, they might as well throw in a unicorn for good measure! 🦄

Looks like the EU’s got its hands full trying to keep the farmers happy while juggling those super-fund dreams. 🤷‍♂️ Maybe if they threw in a few free samples of cheese, they’d get somewhere! 🧀💰

Looks like the EU’s agricultural policy is as well-planned as a British summer… lots of discussion, not much sunshine! 🌧️💸 Better pack your umbrellas, farmers!

Looks like the EC is really on top of things, eh? Maybe they should just rename “Common Agricultural Policy” to “Common Agri-Confusion”—at least it’d match the vibe! 😂

Seems like the EC’s idea of farming policy is a bit like a bad soufflé—full of air, and nobody’s happy with the result. 🍳💼 Good luck merging those funds without turning the whole thing into a right old mess!
