Paris (France) – France is deploying two Canadair aircraft and one coordination plane to Spain on Thursday to assist Spanish authorities, who have sought help from the European Union to combat the wildfires currently affecting the country, as announced by the French Minister of the Interior.
In a post on X, French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau noted that the operation is expected to last “two days.”
Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska had requested EU support and the sending of two Canadair on Wednesday evening, highlighting that there are currently 11 level 2 wildfires (on a four-level scale) in Spain.
A level 2 alert indicates a significant fire risk, necessitating the deployment of additional personnel, including military resources, and firefighting equipment.
The wildfires in Spain have resulted in three fatalities since Tuesday. (August 14, 2025)
