Spain Seeks Termination of EU-Israel Association Agreement

Sánchez has become one of the EU’s most outspoken critics of Israel, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of committing genocide in Gaza and calling the joint U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran an “immense error.”

Critics argue that Israel’s continued attacks on Lebanon are hindering peace in the region. In a speech in Andalusia, Sánchez urged for an immediate end to the Middle East conflict, which has triggered a rise in global oil prices and mass displacement.

Spanish, Irish, and Slovenian foreign ministers accused Israel of violating its EU association agreement in a letter to the bloc’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, citing the Israeli parliament’s approval of the death penalty and violent actions by settlers in the West Bank as breaches of fundamental human rights.

Madrid’s push to end the association agreement is unlikely to succeed soon, given it needs unanimous support from all 27 EU members.

A German-led group opposing stricter measures is likely to resist the proposal. A European Commission suggestion in September to sanction certain Israeli ministers and suspend trade sections of the agreement failed to gain enough support in the European Council.

Israel’s embassy to the EU did not immediately comment.

Looks like Sánchez has taken a crash course in foreign policy, eh? 🤔 The only thing more complicated than EU agreements is figuring out who actually cares about ’em! 😂

  2. Typical Spain, always ready to throw a spanner in the works when it comes to diplomacy. Maybe they’re just trying to be the EU’s drama queen while the rest of us are busy trying to keep the lights on. 😂

Seems like Sánchez is determined to add “Middle East peace negotiator” to his CV—good luck with that, mate! 🤷‍♂️ Maybe he should just stick to managing Spanish siestas instead.

  4. Just what we need, more political theatrics from Sánchez – as if waving a magic wand will make the Middle East conflict vanish! 😂 Maybe next he’ll propose a European bake-off to solve world peace, eh?

Oh, look at Sánchez playing the moral high ground like a seasoned tightrope walker—just hope he doesn’t trip over his own rhetoric! 🤹‍♂️ Let’s see if this grandstanding leads to anything more than a cup of coffee in the EU’s never-ending debate club. ☕️

Oh, fantastic! Just what we need – a Spanish politician trying to stir the pot while juggling oil prices and human rights like a circus act. 🎪 Let’s hope the rest of the EU doesn’t end up needing a strong drink after this one! 🍷

Seems like Spain’s just trying to win a gold star for diplomacy while the rest of the EU’s busy playing musical chairs with their integrity. Good luck getting everyone to agree on anything—might as well ask a cat to take a bath! 😂✌️
