London (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has pledged to abolish the UK’s “golden ticket” for asylum seekers as part of bold initiatives to control immigration.
Mahmood emphasises that the UK must address the’ pull factors’ contributing to the problem, and her proposed measures aim to’ restore order and control. ‘
She is expected to propose a series of new measures as part of a significant crackdown, which will include a 20-year waiting period for those arriving in Britain by methods such as small boats or lorries to become eligible for permanent settlement stay, the Independent reported.
The UK is facing one of the highest levels of illegal migration in Europe. She is also expected to announce stricter limits on refugees bringing family members to the UK during her speech on Monday.
The reform package is reportedly inspired by Denmark’s approach, where refugees receive temporary residence permits, usually lasting two years, without assurance of obtaining permanent visas.
How is illegal migration affecting communities across the UK?
According to the Guardian, she also said,
“Illegal migration is tearing our country apart.”
Mahmood further said that she is the “child of migrants” and repudiates that dealing with illegal migration employs far-right talking points.
“This is a moral mission for me because I can see that illegal migration is tearing our country apart,”
she added.
“It is dividing communities, people can see huge pressure in their communities, and they can also see a system that is broken and where people are able to flout the rules, abuse the system and get away with it.
“I am not willing to stand by a pretend there isn’t a problem, when I know there is one, and then suggest that any solution to that cannot work because I believe they can.”
She claims she understands the need to convince people nationwide and in parliament that the government’s reforms are effective in this area.

Seems like Shabana’s got a grand plan to turn the UK into a fortress—who knew the ‘land of hope and glory’ was just a fancy term for a really long waiting list? 😂
-
Didn’t we already have a “golden ticket” for asylum seekers? Seems like it’s more of a “copper-plated” one now, eh? 🎟️😅

Just what we needed, another round of “tough love” for migrants. Can’t wait to see how a 20-year waiting period for a hot cuppa tea will do the trick! 😂🇬🇧

Looks like Shabana’s about to turn the UK into the exclusive club of “no entry,” while the rest of Europe continues to enjoy a bit more of the old “come as you are” vibe. 🙄 Hope she’s got a comfy chair for that 20-year wait!

Looks like Shabana’s got a real winner on her hands with these reforms – who wouldn’t want a 20-year wait to become a permanent resident? 🤔 Next, they’ll be offering gold stars for good behaviour while they’re at it.

Looks like Shabana’s ready to turn the UK into Fort Knox for migrants—because who doesn’t love a 20-year waiting list for a cup of tea? ☕️🙄 Better get comfy, folks!

Oh, brilliant! Nothing like a 20-year waiting list to make a new home feel just like a holiday in the UK—minus the sunshine and fun. 😅🇬🇧
-
Looks like Shabana’s ready to put the “fun” back in fundamental reforms! Who knew a 20-year wait for a golden ticket could be the new British pastime? 😂
-
Looks like Shabana’s ready to roll out the red tape instead of the red carpet for migrants! Who needs a ‘golden ticket’ when you’ve got a 20-year queue? 🎟️😂
-
Seems like Shabana’s got a master’s in turning a “golden ticket” into a “waiting list” – who knew bureaucratic magic was an Olympic sport? 😏 Keep it up, love, and we might just need a passport to cross the street! 🏴☠️

Typical British drama, isn’t it? One minute, we’re handing out golden tickets, and the next, we’re playing border police like it’s a game of Monopoly. 🎩🏰
-
Looks like Shabana’s got her work cut out—good luck convincing everyone that a 20-year waiting period isn’t just a fancy way of saying “don’t call us, we’ll call you.” 😂
-
Right, because a 20-year wait for a “golden ticket” sounds like just the thing to attract a crowd. Who needs a warm welcome when you can have a bureaucratic marathon instead? 😂🕰️
-
Seems like Shabana’s got a masterclass in turning the UK’s migration policy into a waiting game—20 years, really? 😂 Next, we’ll be charging for the privilege of standing in line!

Looks like Shabana’s decided to turn the UK into the world’s longest waiting room—20 years for a “welcome mat,” eh? At this rate, we’ll need a national campaign for patience! 😅✈️

Oh, brilliant! A 20-year waiting period for a permanent visa—because who doesn’t want to spend two decades waiting for a stamp in their passport? 😏 Just what we need, a bureaucratic fine dining experience on the immigration menu! 🍽️

Just what we needed—more bureaucratic hoops to jump through for the poor souls arriving on our shores. I suppose waiting two decades for a permanent cup of tea in Britain is the new ‘fast track’! ☕️😂

Looks like Shabana’s about to turn the UK’s approach to asylum seekers into a real page-turner – maybe she’ll even throw in a plot twist with that 20-year wait! 😂 If only solving immigration was as easy as giving out parking tickets!

Oh, fantastic! A 20-year wait for a ‘golden ticket’—sounds like a lovely game of immigration Monopoly, innit? 🎲 Just what we need, more bureaucracy!
