If Vladimir Putin declines to participate in negotiations, it could potentially influence Donald Trump to support Ukraine more firmly, suggested Volodymyr Fesenko, a Ukrainian political analyst and head of the Penta Center for Political Research.
“If Putin refuses, it signals that he’s not interested in talks, and Trump might view him as a weak player. Of course, how Trump interprets such a move remains highly unpredictable,” Fesenko commented.
Trump recently addressed the situation on his social media platform, Truth Social, urging efforts to explore the possibility of a peace agreement. “At the very least, this process would reveal whether a deal is possible. If not, both European leaders and the U.S. will have a clearer picture of the situation and can act accordingly,” he wrote.
Amid these developments, both Russia and Ukraine are engaging in intense messaging campaigns to advance their respective narratives.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Monday criticized Kyiv, accusing Ukraine of violating previous ceasefire agreements and cautioned against what he described as a “simplistic approach” to diplomacy.
Additionally, Moscow has insisted that Ukraine must first revoke its 2022 decision that officially prohibited negotiations with Russia’s current leadership before any meaningful talks can proceed.
