The assault echoed across Eastern Europe.
Poland deployed fighter jets and heightened its air defense alert, citing Russian long-range aviation activity targeting Ukraine. Poland’s Operational Command announced that military aviation operations were conducted to safeguard Polish airspace, later confirming no violations were detected and the alert was lifted.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the Russian strikes highlighted the disparity between diplomatic efforts and Moscow’s actions. “Contrary to President Trump’s expectations and despite Zelenskyy’s willingness to compromise, Russia attacked Kyiv’s residential areas,” Tusk wrote on X.
Tusk mentioned plans to discuss peace prospects with leaders from Ukraine, Germany, France, the U.K., Italy, and the EU.
The night air attacks occurred as Zelenskyy traveled to North America, visiting Canada before heading to Florida for discussions with Trump. Zelenskyy reported intentions to confer online with European leaders, discuss all issues, and share details of the documents for his U.S. discussions.
Zelenskyy emphasized that the attacks underscored the necessity of strong security guarantees in peace discussions, with territorial control of the Donbas region and management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant being significant topics in the peace talks, as he informed journalists.
