Bucharest – On April 29, Romania inaugurated its largest photovoltaic park in Teiuş, Alba County, with a total investment of €55 million, including €15 million in non-reimbursable funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). This facility is set to generate enough clean energy to supply over 25,000 households each year.
The Teiuş photovoltaic park features a tracker system that enables the solar panels to follow the sun’s path throughout the day, optimizing energy production. It consists of 120,276 photovoltaic modules and is expected to produce around 103.59 GWh of electricity annually, significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 37,000 tons.
The project is a collaboration between Danish renewable energy operator Eurowind Energy and Teiuş Solar S.R.L.
Additionally, Eurowind Energy announced plans for a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 116.96 MWh, estimated to cost about €43 million, including €7.6 million from PNRR funds. This storage facility is anticipated to be operational by the end of next year.
MEP Siegfried Mureşan, Vice President of the European People’s Party (EPP), emphasized the importance of prioritizing the completion of PNRR-funded projects, noting that Romania has received pre-financing along with three tranches from PNRR, placing it in the middle tier among EU member states. “I urge the authorities to ensure that all funding for mature projects, which can be completed by the August 31, 2026, deadline, should come from the grant component, allowing us to access all available non-reimbursable funds. The government’s focus should now be on speeding up the implementation process,” he stated in an interview with AGERPRES.
Mureşan highlighted that European funds have contributed significantly to Romania’s development in recent years, quadrupling the average income level since the country joined the EU.
