Atmosphere: La Fonda exudes a cozy, laid-back charm with its rustic decor and warm ambiance. A quirky touch: green curtains adorned with a football pattern—likely a leftover tribute to the 2024 European Championship—add an unexpected yet endearing element to the setting.
Payment options: Bring cash or a Bancontact card, as credit cards aren’t accepted. Not wanting to hunt down a bank in the cold, we had to make an instant transfer on-site. Fortunately, the prices are quite reasonable—starters range from €1.50 to €9, while main courses are capped at €24.
Who you’ll see: A lively mix of patrons, including a group of Colombians celebrating a birthday, accompanied by Peter Manjarrés’ Que Dios Te Bendiga playing on the restaurant’s screens. Since the location is far removed from the usual EU crowd, it’s an excellent choice if you’re hoping to dine in anonymity, without bumping into colleagues.
Pro tip: La Fonda is only open three days a week—Friday through Sunday—so plan your visit accordingly.
Getting there: Situated just a five-minute walk from De Brouckère and Place Sainte-Catherine, the restaurant is easily accessible on foot or via public transport.
