Crispin Blunt, a former justice minister, was arrested in October 2023 on suspicion of rape while serving as an MP for Reigate, Surrey. Blunt stated he was interviewed twice, with the second interview resulting in his arrest, which he deemed unnecessary as he was willing to cooperate fully, confident that the investigation would conclude without charges.
At that time, the Tory MP decided not to comment further until police investigations were completed.
He lost the Conservative whip and did not run in the 2024 election.
Surrey Police reported launching an investigation after receiving a rape report in October 2023. Extensive investigations led to the arrests of two men, one in his 60s and another in his 50s, in Horley on October 25, 2023, in connection with the case.
The statement clarified: “It’s been determined there’s insufficient evidence to proceed, and no further action will be taken against the men regarding the rape report.
“However, both men remain under investigation on suspicion of possessing controlled substances, pending further inquiries. This aspect of the investigation is ongoing.”
