Israel’s Coordinator for Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) announced the reopening of the Rafah crossing for people, with a pilot currently being conducted to evaluate its operation. Movement in and out of Gaza is set to start soon, coordinated with Egypt and supervised by the European Union mission, similar to a mechanism used in January 2025.
Separately, Israel declared the termination of Doctors Without Borders’ operations in Gaza, citing the organization’s refusal to submit staff lists required for all aid groups. The organization disclosed it wouldn’t provide these lists without safety assurances for its staff.
Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism accused two charity employees of having links to Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, charges the organization denies. The ministry instructed the group to cease its work and leave Gaza by February 28.
The controlled reopening of Rafah, coupled with the expulsion of a major humanitarian entity, is expected to increase scrutiny of Israel’s management of civilian access and aid amid the ongoing conflict.
