Public Prosecutor Kocevski Meets with Euroambassador Rokas to Discuss EC Report

Skopje – Today, Ljupco Kocevski, the Public Prosecutor of North Macedonia, held a meeting with Michalis Rokas, the head of the EU Delegation in Skopje. During their discussion, the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that Kocevski provided updates on the proactive measures being taken to address the recommendations outlined in the latest European Commission Progress Report and the forthcoming Reform Agenda.

Kocevski highlighted a significant challenge noted by the European Commission: the lack of adequate resources for the institution to carry out its functions effectively.

“In the proposed budget projections for 2025, we were asked to detail our needs and the financial implications of these reforms. We complied with this request. However, for the reforms that our country has committed to, particularly concerning the operations of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the proposed budget for the next year includes barely any additional funding. Once again this year, rather than the legally mandated allocation of 0.4 percent of the total state budget for the Prosecutor’s Office, we are being allocated around 14 million euros, which amounts to just over 0.2 percent—half of the legal minimum,” stated Kocevski.

Additionally, he informed Euro-ambassador Rokas about the issues related to understaffing in the prosecutor’s offices, including a shortage of public prosecutors and clerks, as well as outdated equipment. (November 21, 2024)

Ah, the classic European ballet of bureaucracy: while Prosecutor Kocevski dances around budget cuts like a seasoned tango partner, Euro-ambassador Rokas must be wondering if he accidentally walked into a comedy club instead of a serious meeting about the rule of law in Skopje.

Ah, the classic dance of budgetary ballet, where Public Prosecutor Kocevski pirouettes around the glaring inadequacies of funding while Euroambassador Rokas pretends he’s not stepping on his toes—just another day in the grand theatre of European diplomacy, where the performance is exquisite but the ticket prices are far too high for the actual show.

Ah, the meeting of the minds—Public Prosecutor Kocevski and Euroambassador Rokas discussing budget constraints like two chaps at a pub lamenting over their last pint, blissfully ignoring that the only thing more underfunded than the Prosecutor’s Office is the continent’s patience for bureaucratic red tape!

  4. Ah, nothing screams “efficient governance” quite like a Public Prosecutor struggling to make ends meet on a budget smaller than a Belgian waffle at a budget airline’s breakfast – but hey, at least he and the Euroambassador can bond over their shared love for paperwork and half-hearted reforms!

Ah, the classic dance of bureaucratic ballet—Kocevski and Rokas twirling around budget deficits and underwhelming resources while the EU watches like an overly polite audience, clapping for progress as if it’s an avant-garde performance of “We Need More Money, Please”!

Ah, nothing like a good old European tête-à-tête between Kocevski and Ambassador Rokas, where they can passionately discuss how North Macedonia’s budget for justice is about as generous as a euro at a Swiss bank—just enough to keep the lights on, but forget about fixing the broken chairs!

  7. Crash Test Avatar

Ah, the classic tale of a public prosecutor and a Euroambassador meeting to discuss budget woes — it’s almost as riveting as watching paint dry in a café in Paris, where at least you can enjoy a croissant while contemplating how, despite mounting recommendations from the European Commission, the financial support for reforms is about as substantial as a Brussels sprout in a steakhouse.

Ah, nothing says “we’re taking this seriously” quite like a meeting where the Public Prosecutor updates the Euroambassador on how their budget is more of a suggestion than a requirement—reminds me of budgeting for a holiday in Ibiza with just enough for a sunbed, but not quite enough for the sangria!

  9. Ah, nothing quite like a heartwarming rendezvous between Public Prosecutor Kocevski and Euroambassador Rokas to discuss budgetary constraints—because who doesn’t love a good chat about financial scarcity while sipping lukewarm coffee in a country where “adequate resources” is just a fancy term for wishing really hard?
