Police Intervene in Greenpeace Blockade of Zeebrugge LNG Terminal

Zeebrugge (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Belgian police boarded Greenpeace’s ship Witness in Zeebrugge after about 50 activists blocked the Fluxys LNG terminal using boats and a pontoon with Putin and Trump inflatables. Some arrests reported.

As VRT News reported, Belgian police boarded the Greenpeace ship Witness in the port of Zeebrugge, near Bruges, on Thursday evening, Oct 2, 2025. The incident followed a protest that started earlier last week.

About 50 activists from Greenpeace spent the night on the water near the Fluxys terminal from Tuesday night (September 30, 2025) to Wednesday morning (October 1, 2025). The terminal is accepting scheduled deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Greenpeace commented that the protest focuses on Europe’s gas dependence on Russia and the US. The organisation cautioned that energy dependence is a security risk and contributes to the climate crisis.

Why did police intervene in Greenpeace’s Zeebrugge LNG blockade?

Greenpeace has discussed the protest as part of a larger effort to force Europe to promote renewable energy and limit the use of fossil fuels. Authorities took swift action to ensure port activity resumed safely. The police boarded the vessel and managed the protest effectively without any incidents.

Police initially monitored the blockade and allowed it to continue without interference. Greenpeace reported that some activists were arrested during the operation. It is not yet clear whether the blockade has ended completely.

On October 1, 2025, over 70 Greenpeace activists from 17 countries launched a blockade at the Fluxys LNG terminal in Zeebrugge, Belgium. They used kayaks, rubber boats, a larger ship, and a pontoon displaying inflatable faces of Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump to occupy the terminal’s nearly 400-meter-long entrance.

Seems like Greenpeace really wanted to make a splash, eh? Nothing says “climate protest” like inflatable world leaders in a port – perhaps they were just trying to keep things buoyant! 😂

  2. Looks like Greenpeace decided to throw a fancy dress party at the LNG terminal, complete with inflatable VIPs—who knew climate activism came with such a flair for theatrics? 🎭 Typical Belgians, making a scene while the real issues drift away like a forgotten waffle in the rain! 🍻

Seems like Greenpeace took a page from the circus playbook—nothing says “serious protest” like a couple of inflatable politicians bobbing around like they’re on holiday! 🤡🌊

Oh, brilliant move, Greenpeace! Nothing says “we care about the planet” quite like inflatable Putin and Trump blocking a gas terminal. 🤦‍♂️ Classic European problem-solving: bring in the circus! 🎪

Looks like Greenpeace really went all out with the inflatable duo – nothing screams serious protest like a floating Trump and Putin! 😂 Who knew saving the planet required a bit of slapstick humor?

Seems like the only thing more inflated than those Putin and Trump dolls is the importance of this protest. 🚤🌊 But hey, nothing like a bit of theatrics to remind us that we’re still waiting for real action on climate change, right? 😏

Oh, brilliant! Nothing screams “serious protest” quite like inflatable Putin and Trump bobbing around in a port. Guess the real activists are too busy planning their next big splash 🛥️💨.

Right, because nothing says “serious protest” like floating a couple of inflatable politicians in front of a gas terminal. Brilliant strategy, lads—who needs renewable energy when you can have a summer carnival? 🎈😂

The EU’s Defense Initiative Lacks Strategy and Political Mandate

It is almost 30 years since the last collaborative defence initiative collapsed, leaving Europe’s military clout weaker than ever. The Saint-Malo agreement’s promises of ‘hard power’ proved a mirage, the European Defence Agency largely toothless, and the EU’s battlegroups more a paper army than a deployable force.
