Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski responded to Elon Musk’s recent statements by stressing Poland’s significant role in providing Starlink services to Ukraine. Sikorski highlighted that Poland’s Digitization Ministry is a major supplier, helping fund half of the 42,000 Starlink terminals in Ukraine, at an annual cost of approximately $50 million.
Expressing concerns over Musk’s reliability, Sikorski warned that if SpaceX proves to be an untrustworthy partner, Poland will have to seek alternative providers. In his post on X, he specifically questioned Musk’s ethics, accusing him of threatening a country that is a victim of aggression.
Meanwhile, the European Commission is already exploring ways to help Ukraine secure alternative satellite communication options, as previously reported by POLITICO.
Musk justified his Sunday post as an attempt to promote the end of the war in Ukraine. However, according to several reports, his Starlink threats could be part of a broader effort by Washington to push Kyiv towards securing a mineral resources deal with the U.S.
This potential agreement might be discussed on Tuesday in Saudi Arabia, where American and Ukrainian officials are set to meet for the first time since Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a tense exchange with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House in late February.
