Oud-Turnhout Hosts Peace Ceremony Featuring Dierckx Flameng

Oud-Turnhout (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Oud-Turnhout will hold a peace ceremony on Saturday, September 20, at 6:45 PM in the village square, featuring Councillor Liesbet Dierckx, poet Kris Flameng, music, and a moment of silence.

As GVA News reported, the municipality of Oud-Turnhout, located in the province of Antwerp in Belgium, is inviting a peace ceremony this coming Saturday, September 20th, at 18:45. The ceremony will be held in the village square. The municipality invites residents to attend and participate in the ceremony. The local government wants to have as large an attendance as possible.

“In these uncertain and divisive times, it’s important to come together for peace,”

the municipality says.

“By raising the peace flag together, we demonstrate that respect, hope, and solidarity are also central to our community.”

What is planned for Oud-Turnhout’s peace ceremony?

Poet Kris Flameng will participate in the ceremony by reciting a poem. The event theme will centre on a message of peace, as well as the significance of words.  Additionally, the open event will be Councillor Liesbet Dierckx representing the Green Party. The ceremony includes live music as well.  The event is organised in reflection of the International Day of Peace.

“Bring your family, friends, and neighbours and let’s show the power of unity. This moment of unity and solidarity symbolises our desire for harmony and understanding, within our community and beyond,”

the local government emphasises.

The municipality of Oud-Turnhout has a long tradition of public events to enhance peace and community involvement. In 2005, the municipality started to celebrate the International Day of PEACE through short and localised gatherings with educational activities.

By 2010, the celebration had evolved to include public ceremonies in the village square, involving flags. In 2015, events included poetry readings and musical performances with the intention of encouraging wider community participation.

Nothing says “let’s solve the world’s problems” quite like a village square in Oud-Turnhout, eh? 🎉 I mean, who needs actual diplomacy when you’ve got poetry and some awkward silences, right? 😂

A peace ceremony, you say? Sounds like the perfect time for a bit of soulful poetry and a moment of silence—because nothing says “we’re all in this together” quite like a gathering in a village square, eh? 😏

  3. Nothing says “We’re serious about peace” quite like a poet and a round of applause in the village square—I’m sure the world leaders are quaking in their boots! 😂 Guess I’ll be bringing my family, friends, and maybe a few chickens for good measure; can’t hurt to spice up the solemnity, right?

Typical, isn’t it? A peace ceremony in Oud-Turnhout, where the only thing more certain than the music is that someone will trip over a flag. 😏 Let’s all gather and pretend everything’s just peachy in the village square! 🍑

Looks like Oud-Turnhout is really pulling out all the stops for a bit of peace and quiet – because nothing says harmony like a village square full of folks pretending to be united while dodging each other’s opinions! 😂✌️ #PeaceIsInTheAir

Nothing says ‘peace’ quite like a poet reciting verses in a village square—real groundbreaking stuff, mate! 🎤💨 If only world leaders could drop their briefcases and join us for some live music and a moment of silence, eh? 😂

  11. Oh, lovely! Nothing says “peace” quite like a village square gathering with a poet and some tunes – because who needs a serious global summit when you’ve got Kris Flameng reciting in Oud-Turnhout? 🎶🇧🇪

If only world peace could be achieved by waving flags and reciting poetry in a quaint village square, we’d be living in a utopia by now! But hey, at least it’ll be nicely accompanied by some live music – can’t hurt, right? 🎶🤷‍♂️

Oh brilliant, a peace ceremony in a village square—because nothing says “let’s solve our global issues” quite like a live band and a moment of silence. Who needs world leaders when you’ve got poetry and a green councillor? 😏

  14. Oh, a peace ceremony in Oud-Turnhout? How revolutionary, I might just bring my pet goldfish – he could use a moment of silence too! 🐟✌️

  15. Another charming gathering to remind us that peace is just a flag away! 🎉 Maybe next time they can sell tickets for the silence—would be a hit, I reckon! 😂

A peace ceremony in Oud-Turnhout, eh? Nothing says “let’s unite” quite like a gathering at 6:45 PM on a Saturday – because who wouldn’t want to spend their weekend listening to poetry and music about harmony while contemplating life’s big questions? 😂
