Ljubljana – As the new year arrives, the EU will implement changes in cross-border electricity trading. The time frame for market participants to balance their portfolios within the day will be extended. This adjustment is anticipated to positively impact the market and electricity supply. The power grid operator Eles has announced that Slovenia will adopt this change starting in January.
The European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (Acer) endorsed this proposal from European transmission system operators, granting approval in mid-December.
Based in Ljubljana, the agency anticipates that the modification will enhance the integration of flexibility services and renewable energy sources alongside fluctuating production, while also assisting system operators in maintaining system balance and ensuring a reliable electricity supply.
Although many European system operators have sought a delay in implementing this change, Eles confirms that Slovenia will proceed with its introduction in the first wave by mid-January. This will coincide with the rollout in Italy, Austria, and Croatia, meaning the new regulations will immediately affect electricity exchanges with most of Slovenia’s neighbors. (30 December)
