The Brussels prosecutor’s office has assigned an investigating judge to a murder case following a fatal incident on Saturday, linking it to drug trafficking.
“We must ramp up judicial investigations to dismantle the networks and bring those responsible to justice,” said Brussels prosecutor Julien Moinil, speaking to Belga.
Belgian Interior Minister Bernard Quintin emphasized the need for “new and strict measures” in response to the violence. An emergency meeting has been scheduled for Monday morning with federal police and the interior ministry.
Anderlecht Mayor Fabrice Cumps condemned the incident, noting that “these criminals remain undeterred,” as the attack occurred despite police officers being stationed just 70 meters away.
Earlier this month, on February 5, a shooting disrupted Brussels’ metro network for much of the day, as the suspects used subway tunnels to escape.
