More Governments Condemn Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signed a joint declaration with Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullah as part of the Abraham Accords, agreements aimed at establishing ties between Israel and Arab nations, according to AP. Netanyahu is scheduled to meet U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday in Florida. The New York Post reported that Trump stated he would not recognize Somaliland’s independence as Israel did. The U.S. State Department affirmed its recognition of Somalia’s territorial integrity, including Somaliland. Qatar criticized the declaration as a unilateral action against international law. The African Union opposed any recognition of Somaliland without explicitly mentioning Israel. The European External Action Service reiterated the importance of Somalia’s unity and sovereignty, advocating for meaningful dialogue between Somalia and Somaliland.
