Molenbeek (Eurotoday): Catherine Moureaux (PS), Saliha Raïss (Vooruit), and Dirk De Block (PTB) formed a coalition in Molenbeek, securing 23 out of 45 council seats. This agreement aims for progressive governance and will be presented for party approval before the new council’s installation.

Catherine Moureaux (PS), Saliha Raïss (Vooruit), and Dirk De Block (PTB) have completed negotiations to form a majority in Molenbeek. The agreement, described clearly, brings together the Parti Socialiste (PS), Vooruit, and the Belgian Workers’ Party (PTB). This coalition is viewed as an important political achievement, uniting the three parties around a shared vision for the future of the municipality.

What are the key details of the new coalition agreement in Molenbeek?

It has been said that the details of the agreement will first be presented to the general assemblies of the three parties for approval. If approved, the coalition will officially share the agreement’s contents on 1st December Sunday morning, just hours before the new municipal council is installed. This announcement will outline the policy goals and initiatives the coalition plans to pursue during its term, marking the start of a joint administration focused on bringing progressive change to Molenbeek.

In Molenbeek, the PS-Vooruit and PTB parties will hold 23 out of 45 seats together. The PS-Vooruit list, led by outgoing mayor Catherine Moureaux, won the elections on October 13 but lost 5 seats from the previous term. The PTB-PVDA list gained 4 seats, bringing their total to 11. The MR-Open VLD has 8 seats, and Team Fouad Ahidar enters the council with 7 seats. The Molenbeek Autrement list secured 4 seats, while Ecolo-Groen got 2 and Engagés-CD&V has 1. Moureaux expressed confidence that their joint project will meet the needs of Molenbeek’s residents.

Oh joy, another coalition in Molenbeek! Because nothing says “progressive governance” quite like three parties scrambling for the same seat on the Eurostar. 🚆💼

  2. Oh, look at that—a coalition so progressive they probably think “unity” is a brand of organic hummus! 🌱 With 23 out of 45 seats, I suppose we should be grateful they’re at least not using the whole council as a stage for their next political opera. 🎭
