Munteanu stated that there is a significant chance for their government to facilitate Moldova’s entry into the European Union, as expressed on Friday before the confidence vote. The newly appointed prime minister received support from 55 out of 101 MPs.
In September, Sandu’s PAS achieved a decisive victory, garnering over 50% of the votes against the pro-Russian Patriotic Electoral Bloc (BEP), which received 24.2% of the vote.
The election faced challenges due to what officials termed an “unprecedented” Russian hybrid interference campaign aimed at disrupting Moldova’s pro-European efforts through misinformation, vote-buying, and attempts to incite unrest, according to national security officials.
Sandu emphasized the need for a government focused on development and transforming Moldova into a modern European state, following years of managing various crises. This was mentioned in a statement following Munteanu’s swearing-in.
Sandu conveyed hope and encouragement to the new government, wishing them strength, wisdom, and unity, with aspirations for success in serving the Republic of Moldova and its citizens.
