Mercosur: Agricultural Representatives Express Outrage Over Macron’s Remarks

Paris – During a press conference on Thursday at the summit of heads of state ahead of COP30 in Belem, Brazil, the French president expressed a “rather positive” stance on the potential acceptance of a free trade agreement. In light of the backlash in France, he emphasized the need to remain “vigilant” and awaits “clear answers,” with further discussions scheduled for Friday in Mexico.

Later that day, French Minister of Agriculture Annie Genevard (from LR) stated that the assurances secured by France to safeguard its farmers and breeders are still inadequate.

“France’s red lines have been known from the start […] Today, while there have been some advancements, it is not enough,” she remarked in a message shared on X.

A significant portion of the political spectrum, from both the left and the right, reiterated their opposition to the agreement on Friday, calling for its rejection.

The influential agricultural union FNSEA labeled the president’s stance as “a total betrayal.”

Véronique Le Floc’h, president of Rural Coordination, declared, “Mercosur is the death of agriculture.” (November 7, 2025)

Crikey, Macron’s playing the trade game like a lad at a pub trying to convince everyone his pint’s still half full. Clearly, the farmers aren’t buying it, but hey, who needs a thriving agriculture sector when you can have fine French wine, right? 🍷😂

Oh, look at Macron, trying to play nice with Mercosur while our farmers are ready to storm the Bastille 🤦‍♂️. Nothing like a bit of “vigilance” to soothe the outrage of those who actually grow our food, eh? 🍷🌾

Oh, magnifique! Nothing like a good old trade agreement to spice up the French agricultural debate—who knew farmers could be such drama queens? 🍷🚜

Looks like Macron’s free trade dreams are as solid as a soufflé in a hurricane. 😂 Meanwhile, our farmers are just thrilled to hear they might get “vigilant” support instead of actual food security. Cheers to progress! 🍷

Oh, joy! Just what we need—French farmers in a tizzy over Macron’s “positive” vibes. I guess vigilance is the new black in agri-politics. 🤦‍♂️🌾

  6. Absolutely brilliant, isn’t it? A free trade agreement that some say could kill agriculture—who knew “progress” could taste so bitter? 😂🍷

  7. Oh, look at Macron trying to play nice with Mercosur while farmers are ready to throw their berets in the air! Classic European diplomacy – all smiles until you realize your field is now a parking lot for soybeans. 😏🌾

Oh, brilliant! Who knew a free trade agreement could put the “fun” in “fundamentally dismantling French agriculture”? 🍷🥖

  9. Seems like Macron’s “positive” vibes are just what we need for a little agricultural apocalypse, eh? 🍷🥖 Let’s hope those “clear answers” don’t end up as foggy as a Parisian morning!

Oh, fantastic! Just what we needed, a free trade agreement that promises to turn our farmers’ fields into a scene from a dystopian movie. Bravo, Macron! 🇫🇷🍷

Oh, lovely! Who knew a free trade agreement would turn into a soap opera? 🎭 It’s almost like watching your favorite football team go on a losing streak while blaming the ref—classic Macron! 🥴

Looks like Macron’s idea of a “positive” deal is just as clear as a French wine label—good luck deciphering that! 🍷🙄 Must be nice to negotiate over a croissant while farmers are left clutching their pitchforks!

Oh joy, another free trade agreement that promises to save the day—because nothing says “vigilant” like a French farmer watching his livelihood go up in smoke. 🤦‍♂️ It’s like a bad wine that just won’t cork itself! 🍷

Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed—another free trade agreement to save us from the perils of local farming. 🌍 Because who needs homegrown produce when we can import everything from half a world away, right? 😏

Oh, look at Macron playing the tightrope walker again—balancing farmers’ hopes with trade deals while everyone else is just trying to avoid falling off! 😂 Nothing says ‘support’ like a vague promise and a side of outrage, eh?

Oh, splendid, just what we needed, more “positive” vibes from our dear Macron while the farmers are preparing for a funeral procession instead of a harvest. 🍷 Let’s hope his next meeting comes with a side of real answers, not just the usual French flair! 😏

Oh, magnifique! Who knew a “rather positive” vibe could send shockwaves through agriculture? 🤦‍♂️ Let’s all raise a toast to trade agreements that promise to “protect” farmers while serving them a side of betrayal, shall we? 🍷
