Meloni Outraged by EU Court’s Stricter Asylum Rejection Rules

Meloni described the court’s decision as “surprising” and an EU judicial overreach. “Once more, the judiciary, at the European level, is overstepping its bounds into political responsibilities,” she stated.

The case involved two Bangladeshis rescued at sea and taken to an Italian detention center in Albania. They contested the rejection of their asylum applications, arguing Bangladesh’s classification as a safe country on Italy’s list was inaccurate.

The ruling affects Italy’s Albania model. In 2023, Meloni made a deal with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama to handle the asylum claims of up to 30,000 migrants intercepted in the Mediterranean, with plans for two facilities in Albania.

However, the plan has faced ongoing challenges in Italian courts.

Judges rejected the detention of the first three groups of asylum-seekers sent to Albania in October and November 2024, and in February, referring to a CJEU ruling from October that required safe country of origin criteria to apply throughout a country’s territory. In these instances, Bangladesh and Egypt weren’t deemed fully safe across all areas or for all groups.

To circumvent this legal issue, the Italian government issued a decree in December designating 19 countries, including Bangladesh and Egypt, as “safe” for repatriation.

Typical EU, innit? 🌍 Always keeping us on our toes with their legal gymnastics while we’re just trying to get our, ahem, “safe” countries sorted out. 🤷‍♂️

Looks like Meloni’s “brilliant” plan to send migrants to Albania is facing some pesky legal hurdles—who knew the EU Court could read? 😂 Seems like the only thing more surprising than their ruling is the idea that safety could be a tad subjective!

Seems like Meloni’s trying to turn the EU into her personal playground—who needs pesky judges when you’ve got a good ol’ decree up your sleeve? 🤷‍♂️🇮🇹

Just when you thought we had enough bureaucratic circus, the EU courts decide to juggle asylum rules like a bunch of clowns. 🎪 Who knew “safe country” could be so subjective? 🤷‍♂️

Oh, wonderful! Nothing says “let’s run a country” like making up a list of safe countries on a whim. Maybe next, they’ll declare the moon a holiday destination! 🌙✈️

Seems like Meloni’s having a lovely time playing legal hopscotch with the EU court—who knew asylum policies could turn into a game of “not my problem”? 😂 Can’t wait for the next thrilling episode of “Asylum Wars: The Italian Edition!”

Looks like Meloni’s got herself in a right pickle with the EU courtroom drama! Who knew asylum seekers could stir up more legal chaos than a football match on a rainy Tuesday? 😂⚖️
