Mechelen (Eurotoday) – A man from Bruges, found in possession of illegal drugs worth 3,900 euros, received a 12-month suspended prison sentence, an 8,000-euro fine, and was placed under probation after a botched drug deal in Mechelen.
According to VRT News, the individual from Bruges was caught with significant quantities of drugs in Mechelen. Authorities seized 315 grams of cannabis, 150 grams of hashish, and multiple ecstasy pills. His intention was to sell the substances for a total of 3,900 euros.
The public prosecutor emphasized the severity of the case, calling for a one-year prison sentence and an 8,000-euro penalty. The prosecution hoped the punishment would serve as a deterrent for future offences.
Did a Bruges man’s drug deal in Mechelen lead to his arrest and 12-month probation?
The man admitted his guilt in court and acknowledged that he continued to use cannabis, though he expressed a desire to quit. The judge handed him a 12-month prison term, which was suspended on the condition that he meet specific probation terms. These included paying the fine, seeking help for his drug addiction, abstaining from alcohol, undergoing regular drug testing, and improving how he managed his finances.
Facing financial difficulties following a divorce, the man turned to drug dealing in hopes of quickly resolving his monetary troubles. His plan was to purchase a large quantity of drugs and sell them at a profit. Using the messaging app Telegram, he arranged to meet a buyer in Mechelen. However, the setup turned out to be a trap.
Upon arrival in Mechelen, he was ambushed by two armed men attempting to rob him. Panic set in, and as he tried to flee, he was shot and collapsed nearby. Police, alerted by the sound of gunfire, arrived at the scene and found the injured man.
Investigators were unable to locate his mobile phone, which likely contained crucial evidence such as messages and contacts. Authorities are now considering whether the man may have been involved in other criminal activities.

A year of probation for a botched drug deal? Quite the life hack, mate! 🤔 Next time he should just try selling ice cream; at least that way he won’t end up in a sticky situation… 🍦

A 12-month probation for drug dealing? Sounds like he’s just been handed a VIP pass to the “How Not to Make Money” seminar! 🍃💸 Maybe next time he’ll try a more traditional route—like selling umbrellas in Brussels. ☔️😏

Just what we need, a masterclass in financial management from a guy who thought selling drugs was a solid side hustle. Next time, mate, maybe stick to a legitimate business—like, I don’t know, artisanal cheese? 🧀😅

Oh, brilliant move, mate! Who knew that a little drug dealing and a rendezvous in Mechelen would lead to a part-time job in probation? Talk about turning your life around—just a year of supervision and a fine that could buy a decent pint in Bruges! 🍻💸
