During a press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredriksen and Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen, Macron stated that the key issue is whether President Trump is willing to implement much stronger sanctions against Russia if Moscow fails to honor a U.S.-proposed ceasefire.
Macron suggested that Trump could significantly impact the de-escalation of the unexpected conflict between Israel and Iran.
“In this regard, the United States has a significant capability to bring everyone back to negotiations,” Macron mentioned.
The French president noted that “Israel’s reliance on American arms and munitions provides [the U.S.] with negotiating leverage.”

Following Israel’s strike on Iran’s nuclear program and military leadership on Thursday, which warned of Iran’s imminent nuclear weapon development, Iran retaliated by launching missiles on Friday and Saturday, some of which hit Israel.
Subsequent attack waves resulted in the death of 78 people and over 320 wounded, as reported by Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations. The Iranian counterattacks caused at least three Israeli deaths and around 70 wounded, according to Israeli health authorities.
This escalation between the two longstanding regional adversaries has cast doubt on Trump’s effort to negotiate a new nuclear deal with Iran. Oman Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi posted on X on Saturday morning that talks initially planned for Sunday between the U.S. and Israel in Oman have been canceled.
