Macron urges Europeans to impede the Russian ghost fleet

Copenhagen – The French president urged Europe to take decisive action against the phantom fleet that enables Moscow to export oil while bypassing Western sanctions, following the seizure of one such vessel by France.

This statement was made during a summit of European leaders in Copenhagen.

The Chinese captain of the stateless oil tanker is set to face trial in February for “refusal to comply,” according to French judicial authorities.

Emmanuel Macron emphasized, “Increasing pressure on the phantom fleet is crucial as it significantly undermines Russia’s capacity to fund its military operations.”

He also announced that in the upcoming days, military leaders, in collaboration with NATO and the Coalition of Volunteers, will convene to strategize joint actions.

Concerns remain regarding the ship’s potential involvement in drone activities that interrupted air traffic in Denmark, where it was located during the incidents. (October 2, 2025)

Seems like Macron’s got his eyes on ghost ships now—next, he’ll be hunting down the Loch Ness monster for tax evasion! Maybe he thinks a little naval ghostbusting will distract from the real issues at home. 🛳️👻

Right, because what we really needed was a ghost story from Macron to spice up our European meetings – maybe next he’ll suggest we hire some ghostbusters to tackle those phantom ships. 🎃🚢

The EU’s Defense Initiative Lacks Strategy and Political Mandate

It is almost 30 years since the last collaborative defence initiative collapsed, leaving Europe’s military clout weaker than ever. Today, Europe’s governments are committing hundreds of billions yearly to defence,
