Toulouse (France) – The French Minister of Agriculture stated that without a safeguard clause, “mirror measures,” or “border controls,” France cannot approve the draft agreement with the Mercosur countries as it does not safeguard the interests of French farmers. This remark was made during a press conference following a meeting between the head of state and a sector delegation, which included her participation.
“We cannot accept, farmers cannot accept, consumers cannot accept that we produce and import products and food into Europe that do not adhere to the standards we set for our own producers,” emphasized Annie Genevard, reiterating France’s strong stance on the necessity of “mirror measures.”
On November 12, 2025, approximately 300 farmers, accompanied by around 70 machines, convened throughout the day in Toulouse to seek answers from Emmanuel Macron.
