PARIS — French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Tuesday that the European Commission is preparing a new round of sanctions against Russia, to be introduced “in the coming days” in coordination with the United States.
Speaking during a prime-time television interview, Macron said the upcoming sanctions would focus on “financial services and oil, particularly targeting secondary sellers,” should Russia fail to agree to a ceasefire.
Macron’s remarks follow a recent visit to Kyiv over the weekend, where he joined the leaders of Germany, the United Kingdom, and Poland to express solidarity with Ukraine. During the visit, the group discussed the possibility of implementing additional sanctions against Moscow.
