Lebbeke Library Introduces Dutch Language Computer with Heirbaut

Lebbeke (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Lebbeke Library introduced a new language computer for Dutch learners. Visitors can use Duolingo, De Liedjeskast, and a picture dictionary. Heirbaut said it offers flexible, independent learning for all ages.

As VRT News reported, the Lebbeke Library, in the province of East Flanders, Belgium, has introduced a new language computer to help people learn Dutch. The library already has a “language centre” with books and materials for both children and adults.

Officials mentioned that the new computer gives visitors a modern way to practice. It provides access to websites and apps for learning Dutch. Programs include Duolingo, De Liedjeskast, and a picture dictionary.

What can Lebbeke Library’s new language computer do for Dutch learners?Belgium

Visitors can use the computer for free during library opening hours, even when no staff are present.

“The laptop will be upstairs, where it is quiet. Headphones will also be available,”

a library spokesperson said. He mentioned that the computer allows learners to practice reading, writing, and speaking Dutch in a calm environment.

The Lebbeke Library has been helping people learn Dutch for several years. Since 2019, it has hosted the “Klapsalon,” a conversation group held twice a month for non-Dutch speakers. Volunteers help participants practice speaking Dutch.

The library also offers books, workbooks, and access to online learning platforms for reading and writing practice. This initiative comes ahead of Dutch Language Week, which runs from October 3 to 12, 2025.
