Brussels – Kaja Kallas emphasized that Kosovo’s new government must intensify its efforts to implement crucial reforms linked to its EU aspirations.
Since gaining independence in 2008, Kosovo, the youngest country in Europe, has faced political turmoil following the February 2025 parliamentary elections. The party led by outgoing Prime Minister Albin Kurti secured the most votes but fell short of a majority and struggled to find a coalition partner, necessitating new elections.
In the recent election, Mr. Kurti’s party, Vetëvendosje (VV), reportedly garnered nearly 50% of the vote, potentially resolving the ongoing political impasse.
The Central Election Commission disclosed that Vetëvendosje (VV) received 49.79% of the votes, with ballot counts completed at approximately 95% of polling stations.
Mr. Kurti urged for swift action to establish governmental institutions and called on the opposition to collaborate with his party in parliament. (29 December 2025)
