NEW YORK – Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, declared last night that Russia’s war against Ukraine continues to be a significant source of global instability. Speaking at the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in New York, she remarked, “The Russian war against Ukraine and the conflict in Gaza remain the primary drivers of global instability.”
Kallas pointed out that during the conflict in Ukraine, Russia has “sabotaged global food supply chains, accelerated ecological disasters, and disseminated disinformation, even at the highest levels of international forums.” Such behaviors, she noted, “systematically destabilize international systems” and contradict “the commitment of the South African G20 presidency to sustainable development as a unifying priority.” Kallas urged for increased international pressure on Russia to halt its aggressive actions and engage in meaningful negotiations, emphasizing, “As long as there are no signs that Russia’s objective of conquering Ukraine has changed, please help build this pressure.”
