Ohrid – On Thursday, Slovenian Interior Minister Boštjan Poklukar held a meeting with his Macedonian counterpart Panče Toškovski in Ohrid. Following their discussions, Poklukar emphasized Slovenia’s ongoing support for North Macedonia’s aspirations to join the European Union. He advocated for enhanced police collaboration between the two nations, as Slovenia aims to bolster cooperation among Western Balkan police forces in combating organized crime and terrorism while transferring EU security standards to the region.
“We had extensive discussions on this topic today, and I would like to note that we are already collaborating within NATO in various peace-support operations, and I am confident that we will continue this partnership in the European Union in the future,” Poklukar stated after the meeting, reaffirming Slovenia’s robust and lasting support for North Macedonia’s EU accession.
The ministers acknowledged that the cooperation between their countries, particularly in internal affairs, is strong. “In relation to the European Union and various agencies such as Europol and Frontex, I believe our collaboration is quite effective,” Poklukar noted.
He also backed North Macedonia’s initiative to enhance regional cooperation for the professional advancement of police officers and services, proposing Slovenia’s involvement in the regional network of training centers and police academies. “We confirm our commitment to this initiative, as international police cooperation is essential for effectively tackling crime and managing migration,” he added.
