Initial Responses to the Verdict Against Dodik: EU Urges Adherence to the Rule of Law

Sarajevo (Fena) – The European Union has acknowledged the criminal sentence handed down by the Appellate Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina against the President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, reiterating that the sentence is obligatory and must be upheld by all.

– The sentence is obligatory and must be upheld. The European Union urges all parties to acknowledge the independence and impartiality of the Court, and to fully comply with its ruling – stated Anitta Hipper, chief spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy of the EU.

Following the Appellate Chamber’s confirmation of Dodik’s one-year prison sentence and a six-year ban from holding the presidential position in the Republic of Srpska, the United Kingdom also reacted.

– All relevant institutions and actors must uphold the rule of law and comply with the ruling promptly – declared British Ambassador to BiH, Julian Reilly, via platform X.

It is important to note that the Court of BiH previously convicted Dodik for failing to implement the decisions of the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, thus undermining the constitutional framework and endangering state institutions, as stated in the verdict.

The Institute for Research of Genocide Canada (IGK) expressed that the ruling underscores Milorad Dodik’s significant threat to the legal order and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. – This ruling serves not only as a condemnation of the RS entity’s president but also delivers a strong message to all who seek to compromise the sovereignty and statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina from within – declared IGK, urging relevant institutions to implement the final ruling without delay. Isn’t it charming when the EU reminds us that laws are still a thing? Must be nice to live in a world where “obligatory” means anything to someone like Dodik! 😂

  2. Isn’t it charming how the EU insists on “upholding the rule of law” while sipping their espresso? 🤔 I suppose they think a year in the slammer will teach Dodik to play nice. 🍷

Looks like the EU’s idea of a “vacation” for Dodik is a one-way ticket to a year in the slammer. Nothing says “rule of law” like a six-year timeout from the presidential office, eh? 😂

Seems like the EU thinks a year in the slammer will teach Dodik the finer points of “rule of law” — good luck with that! 😂 I mean, who doesn’t love a little courtroom drama in the Balkans, right?

Looks like the EU is really flexing its muscles again, demanding everyone play nice with the law—guess we should’ve expected that from the folks who brought us the Brussels sprout 😉. If only they could enforce a bit of the same enthusiasm at the cheese counter, eh? 🧀

Brilliant, isn’t it? The EU urging Dodik to respect the law is like a cat asking a mouse to take a vacation—good luck with that! 😂
