Hungary Faces €1 Billion Loss in EU Funds by Year’s End

Hungary’s efforts to unlock EU funding have so far fallen short. After meeting with Hungary’s European Affairs Minister János Bóka on Tuesday, Budget Commissioner Piotr Serafin remarked that the country’s actions are “not quite what we were hoping for.”

To secure the frozen funds, Hungary must implement key reforms, including changes to its anti-corruption and conflict-of-interest legislation. Under EU rules, member states have a two-year window to claim back money withheld by the European Commission. However, Hungary risks permanently losing over €1 billion in regional funding from the 2022 budget if it fails to meet these requirements.

“That’s a lot of money for any country, but especially for Hungary,” said an anonymous EU diplomat familiar with the sensitive negotiations.

The looming funding loss adds pressure to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who is nearing the conclusion of his six-month term at the helm of the EU’s rotating Council presidency. This role gives him considerable influence in setting agendas and chairing meetings in Brussels.

Budget Commissioner Piotr Serafin said Hungary’s actions are

Meanwhile, Hungary’s economic outlook remains challenging. The nation’s growth lags behind the EU average, and its budget deficit, at 5.4 percent of GDP this year, is among the highest in the bloc.

Oh, losing a cool billion in EU funds? Just a classic Tuesday for Hungary! 😂 I mean, who needs proper anti-corruption measures when you can just play financial hopscotch with Brussels instead? 💸

  2. Looks like Hungary’s got a real knack for turning “let’s make a deal” into “let’s make a mess” 🤦‍♂️. With a billion euros on the line, one might think they’d take a hint—too bad it seems like they’re more interested in a game of hide-and-seek! 💸😏

  3. Oh, losing €1 billion? Just a casual Friday for Hungary, right? Maybe they thought the EU funds were like a buffet—take what you want, but forget to bring a plate! 😂

Isn’t it adorable how Hungary thought it could charm a billion euros out of the EU without actually, you know, playing by the rules? 😂 Maybe they should start offering a complimentary goulash with every reform proposal! 🍲

Looks like Hungary’s got a real talent for turning potential cash into thin air—maybe they should teach a masterclass on how to miss out on a billion euros! 😂 At this rate, Orbán might want to stick to baking paprika if he can’t stir up some reforms!

The Church’s Influence in Today’s Society

By Father Alexander Men
When considering the Church’s role in today’s world, particularly in the Soviet Union where Orthodoxy is prevalent, we encounter a complex and unfortunate picture. This is due to a growing need for spiritual values and an understanding of faith among the people. Atheism isn’t widespread; instead, deep religious ignorance or paganism exists, yet the aspir

Iran – United States: The Truce Is Not Peace, It Is a Strategic Pause – Op-ed by Isaac Hammouch

The perception of Iran as an immediate threat is misguided. Although it may never have posed such a danger in the traditional sense, this misconception has led to flawed strategic discussions in the West. A focus on short-term threats overlooks Iran’s real power, which is built on long-term, multidimensional strategies. Rather than seeking immediate attacks, Iran gradually increases its leverage
